Presentation of Post-Graduate Programs

The Institute of Mathematics, Statistics and Scientific Computing (IMECC) of UNICAMP has five postgraduate programs, which are among the most prestigious in the country:

  • Mathematics (Master's and Doctorate)
  • Applied Mathematics (Master's and Doctorate)
  • Statistics (Masters and Doctorate)
  • Professional Master in Applied and Computational Mathematics
  • PROFMAT - Professional Master in Mathematics in National Network

The first doctoral thesis at the Institute was defended in 1969, in Mathematics. The first master's dissertations were defended in 1971 in Mathematics, in 1978 in Applied Mathematics and in 1979 in Statistics. The first PhD thesis in Applied Mathematics was defended in 1993, and the first PhD theis in Statistics was obtained in 2009. Since then the programs have been constantly consolidating in quality, number of students, national and international recognition.

In 2007 one of our PhD theses in Applied Mathematics received the CAPES Grand Prize among all the theses in the area of exact sciences.

The first dissertation of the professional master's degree was presented in 1993, but it was only in 2006 that the program gained the shape it has nowadays, with the essential support and follow-up of CAPES and the Post-Graduate Administration of the University.

In 2012 IMECC became a pole of PROFMAT, a post-graduate program designed to improve the qualification and vocational training of teachers of basic education. The first PROFMAT dissertation was defended in 2014.

More information about IMECC's post-graduate courses can be found in the Course Catalog.
